The seats on my bus in to work today were, for the first time since I started riding, completely full. It was a great morning ride, as people were all talking and laughing, largely about how nice it was to see this many people on the bus. As people got on and glanced around for seats, those already seated would scoot over and speak up "there's room right here". There was even a bit of a cheer when the final seat was filled.
I had read in the newspaper and heard from fellow bus riders that other routes have been filling up for months, but my little route has lagged behind as it runs up a minor street. When I started riding there were many mornings when I was the only person on the bus.
Our president and his cronies have failed to mention such positive side effects of the high gas prices, attempting instead to take advantage of the opportunity to try and get their hands on our shorelines and Alaska. Can we trust Congress not to give in to this blatant political opportunism that solves nothing? Their approval of the wire tapping bill makes me wonder. Obama, especially, disappointed me on that one.

Full buses and better bike lanes could be the Victory Gardens of our time.
